I have seen many weddings and worked with many photographers. I am glad to say that the vast majority of people I have worked with have been great fun and have done a fantastic job on the day. It is true however, that photographers are just like everybody else, they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes! A photographer will play an important role on your wedding day. They will have to interact with you, your guests and your venue and it is important that you have a good relationship with them and also enjoy being in their company. But what good is that if you are not happy with the photographs they take?

Do your research, look at previous weddings they have shot, visit them at a wedding fayre or ask for a meeting before booking. Some like to get the group shots done quickly to give you more time with your guests, some spend 5 minutes setting up the perfect bridal shot. As long as you communicate beforehand your timings of your day, a good photographer will listen and tell you what is achievable in the time that they have. It is always good to have a shot list, especially for the family and group shots, but it is also important that when you have invested your time and efforts into finding the right photographer that ticks all your boxes, whose work you have seen and are impressed by, who will make you feel at ease on the biggest day of your life, that you trust them and let them do their job. Some of the best photographs of your wedding day probably won't be the ones you have planned, but the little moments that a good photographer will notice and have the skill and ability to capture.

My last piece of advice? - Unless your uncle/sister is a professional wedding photographer, don't risk them being the person responsible for your wedding photographs!
