With summer almost over, 2013 has been an exceptional year for fine weather weddings. With more sunny days on average than previous years, 2013 will make it into the record books, as being less disappointing for 'wedding day weather' overall.

We've all said it - when the weather is good in the UK, there's no better island to live on. This is even truer when it comes to choosing the location for your wedding. Eliminating the possibility of unwelcome bad weather - capable of spoiling even the best-planned wedding day, has usually meant going overseas, booking flight tickets, and hoping a reasonable number of family and friends can afford to foot their share of the bill, and be there with you.

But 2013 meant the majority of those who chose to plan their wedding in the UK had dry weather and warm sunshine on their wedding day. It meant a flourish in engaged couples booking wedding receptions in marquees and in venues with open air facilities like patios, balconies with decking, fountains, feature gardens and avenues of trees.

If you're thinking about a wedding in the UK, it's maybe worth reconsidering, not eliminating open-top cars and carriages, to get you to your wedding venue and/or home afterwards. For the reception, give extra thought to short-listing venues with lawns not tarmac immediately outside; wedding receptions in marquees; pig-roasts and BBQ style open air dining (even fish and chips in cones), any dining style that can be enjoyed alfresco.

Most wedding reception venues will charge for the food on your plate plus the catering involved. It's rare that the reception food charge will be over inflated because of the outside facilities, so here's your chance to make sure you can have the outdoor wedding you dreamed of, slip off your shoes and walk across grass, without traveling to far-flung places on the other side of the world.
