Elizabeth Ayers, the Stratford-upon-Avon bridal wear designer, wedding dress shop owner and expert in gown alteration celebrates 27 years in the bridal industry this year

Throughout the years Elizabeth Ayers has always enjoyed creating handmade, bespoke couture wedding dresses for discerning brides. She believes in classic designs that flatter the individual and compliment both the bride’s figure and her personality.

She always says that, “it should be the bride wearing the dress not the dress wearing the bride.”

At an initial consultation she will listen to your ideas and take into consideration the wedding setting, mood and budget. She will then design and quote a price for your wedding dress, showing the fabric options from her extensive selection of high quality swatches, laces and trimmings.

Your gown or outfit will then be handmade by Elizabeth, which will include 2 or 3 fittings, with possibly a calico toile first if she feels it is necessary. At every stage of the process her client is involved in the design and evolution of her bespoke dress.

Elizabeth Ayers is also the UK Agent for Marylise and Rembo-Styling gowns.

She also knows that there is a demand for bridal alterations. With the current economic climate brides are finding alternative ways to save money on their wedding dress and Elizabeth has been able to provide an additional service of specialist alterations for wedding dresses that may need adjustments to fit or small design adaptations to create a personal touch.

A History Of 27 Years

After training in theatre costume design, Elizabeth moved to the Midlands in 1985 and started her own bespoke dressmaking business. After discovering that she had a real passion for the “theatre” of bridal gowns, she knew she already had all the specific production skills required to help her brides look their very best on their big day.

1987 saw her set up the bridal studio Azalea Designs in Stratford Upon Avon. As well as continuing to make bespoke bridal wear, she began to supply the retail bridal trade. Liberty of London was the very first shop to sell her Azalea Designs wedding dresses and by the following year they became the top selling label at the store.

Elizabeth continued expanding her client base to include Harrods, with one design dominating the collection that year.

In 1992, and now with a young family, she moved out of the centre of Stratford on Avon to the house and studio from which she still works, coinciding with a business name change to Elizabeth Ayers Bridalwear.

Soon after moving to her new studio Elizabeth was introduced to a Belgian bridal company, Marylise, who were looking for talented British wedding dress designers.

This was an opportunity not to be missed. In 1999 Elizabeth was invited by Marylise to become their UK agent and 13 years later she still continues to look after all their UK stockists. Since 2010 she also works for their sister company Rembo Styling.
