  1. Why Book A Professional DJ/Disco At Your Wedding
A good DJ can be more versatile than a live band or a singer as they can offer all types of music to cater for a wide range of tastes amongst your guests. You should also discuss your requirements and likes with your chosen DJ beforehand.
  2. Make Sure You Have A Written Contract/Confirmation Of The Booking For Your Special Day
The details should confirm date, price, venue, paying times, setup times and finish times. Make sure you see and read their terms and conditions.
  3. A Professional DJ Should Have PLI Public Liability Insurance
Always ask for this, it is required by law. Also remember that most hotels/venues ask for P.A.T. equipment certificates to meet health and safety regulations. Any DJ/disco who has not got these should be avoided.
  4. What About The Hotels Resident DJ?
Most wedding venues and hotels offer a resident DJ. Establishments generally offer this service, quite legitimately, to increase revenue for the venue itself. If the venue insists that you can only use their in house entertainment, make sure that you meet with the DJ themselves to discuss your requirements before you sign any contracts with the venue or make any payment. If the entertainment package doesn't suit you and your needs, you may need to look elsewhere for a venue.
  5. Ask As Many Questions As Possible Before You Book
As well as contracts and discussing musical tastes and so on, make sure you ask for references or recommendations. Remember, most good DJ's will come recommended, not because they are cheap, but because they are good.
  6. Price. How Much Should I Be Looking To Pay?
As a rule of thumb (as of 2013), professional DJ's/discos should be charging a minimum fee of £250.00 for around a 5 hour set. This is a minimum, there are many above this price. If the price is below, check exactly what is included and what is not, i.e set up of equipment, traveling distances and costs etc. A cheap has the potential to ruin both your and your guests day. A cheap cost may be a reflection of the quality. As always, check, ask, check and ask again if in doubt.
